Choose the right type for each field
A field's type decides what people can enter in it — free text, a choice from a list, a number, a date, a file — and how Zite can use the answer later in filters and charts. You pick the type when you add the field, and it can't be changed afterwards, so it's worth a moment's thought.
Group | Type | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
TEXT | Short Text | A name, a short label, a reference number |
Long Text | Notes and descriptions | |
URL | A link to a web page or online document | |
CHOICE | Single Select | One answer from a list you define |
Multi Select | Several answers from a list you define | |
Cascade Select | A choice in steps — a sector, then an activity within it | |
NUMBER | Number | Counts and measurements |
Currency | Amounts of money | |
Date | A date | |
ADVANCED | Attachment | A file — a photo, report or spreadsheet |
Calculated | A value worked out from other number fields | |
Lookup from Site Info | A detail copied from the entry's site |
Every type also has the settings every field has — Field Name, Required, Show in default table view and Hint (see Add fields to a data table). The pages that follow cover what's different about each type. Select a type to jump to it.
