Yes — Zite forms are built on the ODK standard

Yes. Zite’s forms are built on ODK (Open Data Kit) — the open standard for field data collection trusted by humanitarian and field teams worldwide. It’s what makes offline collection on the mobile app possible.

What that means in practice:

  • Most ODK functions and expressions also work in Zite. Always verify a form — open it in Preview and test every question — before you deploy it.

  • Zite uses ODK Central directly, not Kobo or other ODK derivatives. A form built in one of those tools may need checking for compatibility before it works in Zite.

The ODK documentation has more on ODK forms, including the operators and functions reference used by Free Format calculates.
