Weights and progress

Not every stage is the same size. Surveying a roof is an afternoon's work; installing the panels is most of the project. A stage's Weight records that difference: it is the share of the whole job that the stage represents.

Weights are relative. Zite works out each stage's share as that stage's weight ÷ the total weight of the stages that apply to the site, so the numbers do not have to add up to anything in particular – 10 / 10 / 45 / 20 / 15 gives exactly the same percentages as 2 / 2 / 9 / 4 / 3. Many teams still make a site's stages add up to 100, simply because each weight then reads as a percentage. That is what School Rooftop Solar does:

Every stage row shows Weight: N (Total : N). For a parent stage the Weight is shown as - and the Total is the sum of its sub-stages, so the plan's totals stay honest as you add or change sub-stages.
